We invite you to learn more about Empire structures. Here are some frequently asked questions about the structure’s many features, its durability, efficiency, safety and more.
Is it a tent?
No. The Empire structure is an engineered stressed membrane structure, the result of extensive engineering.
It is constructed of steel truss arches, integrally connected to an all-weather outer high performance architectural membrane. This specialized membrane is certified flame-retardant. Structures are engineered to withstand high wind loads and designed to shed snow.
With extensive fabric structure experience, Empire delivers the strongest, most reliable, and versatile structures available in Canada.
What architectural features of the building make it superior?
The Empire structure benefits from lower capital costs, lower energy demands and lower life-cycle costs. Built with a 16-plus year high performance architectural membrane and a non-corroding substructure, it also features exceptional durability and proven long-term performance.
What about vandalism and security?
An optional 4-8-foot-high solid wall system is available for extreme security-sensitive applications. Our high performance architectural membrane has a ripstop construction that will help mitigate tearing should it be punctured.
Security is the same as for any building with windows. Motion detectors to set off alarms or to summon security or police are used in the same way as for other structures.
Can it be air-conditioned or heated?
Empire offers a truly effective insulation system, using an R-8 interior wrap system on the inside of the structure.
What color choices do I have for the membrane?
There are many colour options, all of which are proven colorfast and weatherproof. You can even mix and match colors at no additional cost.
How are the acoustics?
Empire structures have been used successfully on hundreds of acoustically sensitive applications. The curved profile of the structure creates an interior free from conventional flat walls and corners. The soft interior of the fabric walls effectively absorb sound, resulting in outstanding acoustic properties.
Does it meet the building code?
The Empire structure is designed to meet both the national and all local building code requirements. Once you are ready to proceed, we will supply a comprehensive permitting package, complete with drawings and supporting calculations, all stamped by a licensed engineer certified in your region.
Who oversees the project?
The team at Empire will complete the entire project to ensure quality is never compromised and your structure is erected to our exacting standard.
Structures can be available within 8-12 weeks and installation can be completed in just a few days following delivery. The entire project takes a fraction of the time compared to conventional construction alternatives.
How long will an Empire structure last?
Empire structures are built to last, withstanding extreme weather and extreme situations. The steel sub-structure has an indefinite life expectancy and a 20-year pro-rata guarantee. Our high performance architectural membranes have pro-rata guarantees of up to 16 years. Future replacement membranes are inexpensive.
Can we change or add to the structure in the future?
The Empire structure is a prefabricated, modular building design, which allows for easy expansion, or reduction, in the future.
Can it be attached to an existing building?
Yes. The Empire structure can easily be attached to an existing fabric structure building or it can also be butted up directly to a conventional building.
How easy is it to relocate an Empire structure?
One of the unique characteristics of the Empire structure is that it can be dismantled, reconfigured, and re-erected for a number of applications during the life of the structure. This is an easy and cost-effective solution.
Are engineering costs included?
Yes. You do not need to budget any extra for engineering of the structure itself, since it is included in the price of your Empire structure.
Could we build a conventional metal building cheaper?
It is very unlikely that you could find a more cost-effective use of your building budget.
How fast can an Empire structure be erected?
Structures can be available within 3-4 weeks and installation can be completed in just a few days following delivery. The entire project takes a fraction of the time compared to conventional construction alternatives.
